Seriously, Mother Nature? Seriously?!

This morning I woke up to this...

Yes.  Snow.  What the hell?  It is the middle of April.  Did Mother Nature not get the memo?  Hello!  April SHOWERS bring May flowers.  It doesn't say anything about SNOW showers.  I think it can safely be assumed that "showers" means rain...the liquid form of rain...not the frozen, cold form.  Okay, fine.  I've lived in this area for 30 years, so I guess I should be used to this by now, but damn...Mother Nature is being a dirty tease this year and I'm so tired of it!!

Also, I don't know if it is this weather or what, but I am exhausted today!  I can't seem to keep my eyes open and all I want to do is go home, crawl into my nice warm bed, and go to sleep.  But no.  I have to sit here in front of a computer for another two hours!  I hate that I have to sit in front of a computer 9 hours a day, almost five days a week.  It is depressing and fattening.  And today it is causing my eyes to hurt and feel droopy!

On a somewhat brighter note, I just looked outside and it finally quit snowing.  It had better not start again! If it does I may very well pack up some of my belongings, grab Pacen and move to the Caribbean.  Maybe tonight I should look at one of my diving magazines or one of my Caribbean Travel magazines, or one of the Yachting magazines a friend gave me.  I'll sit in my newly painted room (not quite finished), that is now the color of the shallows of the Caribbean and imagine the ocean breeze blowing through my hair while I sit on a yacht sipping a Tequila Sunrise, checking out the hunky ripped captain that I hired.  *SIGH*  I love dreaming!

Mother Nature's Fury = Fun for Some

Well, after a few days of nearly 70 degree weather, Mother Nature decided to bring us back to reality...to March reality. She slammed us with a blizzard. It started yesterday morning and didn't let up until a little over 24 hours later. Everything is drifted over and underneath the snow is a bunch of ice. The highways are closed and if you have a car there is no way you are leaving your driveway (without getting severely stuck). The weather was so bad that my boss sent us home at 4:00 yesterday afternoon and he told us to stay home today. That, and the moisture, were the only good things about this storm.

As you probably guessed, Pacen did not have school today. He lounged around the house in his boxers for most of the morning (too bad I don't have the movie Snow Day...it would've been a good one for him to watch today) and then he decided to venture outside. He found some big drifts (we have some that are taller than him in our yard)and started digging tunnels. His first one caved in after it was only partially done and his second one was more like a small cave. He was covered from head to toe in snow and soaking wet, but he had fun.

After he decided he was done freezing, he came in and I made him a nice cup of hot chocolate with whip cream and marshmallows (in MY favorite mug). To top it off he also got to have some Girl Scout Thin Mints. Mmmmmmm.

It must have been a pretty good cup o' chocolate because after only about a minute or so this is what was left.

Winter Wonderland

Last week we had a "winter wonderland" kind of day. It snowed and the wind didn't blow! It's rare for it snow without wind to accompany the big, white flakes. I love it when that happens! The snow is able to fall where it pleases, gently covering everything in sight with a beautiful white blanket. No drifts, no ground blizzards, just peacefulness. It was the kind of day that beckons to you...begs you to come outside and enjoy the goodness that winter sometimes offers. So, even though I was at work, I did just that...I went outside and wandered around the awesome living snow fence that surrounds Niobrara Electric (really the only good thing about that place).
