Wednesday Wishes!

I can't believe it is already the second Wednesday in October!  Halloween parties and such are only a couple short weeks away and it was only yesterday that I finally decided what I want to be this year!  I'm not telling what it is.  It's going to be a homemade costume and I hope I get it done in time.  Now Pacen just needs to decide on a costume.  He has a couple ideas, but he keeps changing his mind.  Go figure.  :)

Okay, on with the show.  Here are some more Halloween favorites that I pinned over at Pinterest.

This is the most adorable infant costume ever!  Seeing this absolutely adorable baby in this absolutely adorable costume almost makes me want to have another child...just so I can dress him/her up like Candy Corn!

I love this simple, yet awesome, outdoor decorating idea!  It would be cool to use Zombies too!  Unfortunately, if I hung skeletons or zombies or anything from my house the Wyoming winds would have them ripped of and blown into the next state within a matter of days...maybe even hours.  Sad.

I love this idea!  I have actually kind of started this project.  I have all the materials I need laying around the house and garage.  Mine is going to be slightly different.  I'll post pics when and if I ever get it done. ;)

I love this poster/picture!  It would be perfect for my Halloween decor!!  Maybe I can re-create it!  Probably next year.  If  you like this "Snow White" Halloween decor then check this out:

How awesome is this?!  It also looks pretty easy to make.  The tutorial is here.  Every year I set up a mad scientist's laboratory scene in my house.  This book would fit in perfect amongst the "specimens", spider webs, skulls, and other awesome things!

What an awesome Halloween snack!  The cauldrons are made from dipping a balloon in melted chocolate!  Love it!

I'm absolutely diggin' Sugar Skulls.  I seriously thought about trying it this year, but I wasn't able to find the type of dress I wanted to wear.  Maybe next year.  This paint job was one of my favorites!  It is gorgeous and still somewhat creepy!  (The costume I have decided on requires zero paint, which is probably best.  No zits.  Well, none due to a bunch of pore clogging paint anyway.)

Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright

I decided a while back that I needed to get my ass in gear and create/build some things I have pinned on Pinterest. I have pinned so many things that I want to try to recreate and I have finally finished some.

The first thing I tried was this sign:

Source: susieharrisblog.com via Brooke on Pinterest

When I first saw this sign I knew I had to have it.  Bob Marley is one of my favorite musical artists and "Three Little Birds" is my favorite Marley song (with "No Woman, No Cry" coming in at a close second).  When I am feeling down or feeling like life is throwing me too many curve balls I listen to "Three Little Birds" to remind me that "every little thing is gonna be alright".

I didn't have a tutorial or anything to look at because Susie makes them to sell.  I figured it wouldn't really be hard at all to make one of my own, plus I would be saving some money while I was at it.  As it turned out I paid $0 for my sign!

I already had the yellow and white paint.  The yellow paint was left over from Pacen's room project a few years ago.  I learned the hard way that you don't need to buy as much paint in light colors, as it tends to go a lot further than the dark colors.  So, I'm stuck with a lot of cheery yellow paint!  :)  The white paint I used was actually Primer, but it got the job done.

I noticed Susie used what, I'm assuming, is a piece of plywood for her sign, and although I do have some scrap plywood lying around, I did not have one in a manageable or proper size.  I rummaged around the house and came up with a piece of old paneling that would work (the back).  It was rather "L" shaped, but I could easily work with it and I figured I could fit it in my car and drive it to the family store in Harrison and use the circular saw to saw off the section that wasn't needed.

I then used Window's Publisher on my computer to find fonts that were similar to what Susie used.  I also made sure to open a blank page in the 24x24 size, which was the size I was making my sign.  The words "every" and "alright" were done in Brush Script MT and the other words were done in Candara.

I painted the board yellow and then decided to trace the words onto the board using that black/blue transfer paper (I can't think of the name of it right now).  Once I got the words transferred I painted "Every" in with white and then I decided I didn't like what I saw.  The transfer paper left a lot of black smudges all over the yellow and I decided I didn't like the font I had originally chose for the small words.

I re-painted the board and re-printed the words (this time using Candara).  I then traced the words onto freezer paper and used a craft knife to cut out the letters.  I ironed the freezer paper onto the board to keep it in place and then painted all the words white.  I slowly peeled off the freezer paper and used small brushes to make the words less sloppy (some paint oozed under the paper).

I sawed off the part of the board that wasn't needed and went over everything with some sandpaper to make it look somewhat older.  That's it!  It sounds more difficult than it was, but I'm not the best at describing things in a simple manner.

I hung the sign on a small wall next to my bookshelf and I have decided I'm going to make more inspiration type signs to hang there too.  It will be my "It's-okay-Brooke.-Things-may-seem-hard-right-now,-but-everything-will-work-out-like-it's-suppose-to" wall.  I'll keep you updated as I add to the wall.  Hopefully it will be sooner, rather than later.  :)

For those of you who have never heard "Three Little Birds", here you go:

Of course the quote for this post is the chorus:

"Singin': "Don't worry 'bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."
Singin': "Don't worry (don't worry) 'bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"
~ Bob Marley

Don't know why I didn't do this sooner, but today (10-25-11) I'm linking up at Sugar Bee Crafts.  Go check out all the awesome crafts!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Orange

I missed the last photo challenge over at A Step in the Journey, which was "hands".  I never got around to taking a picture of anyone's or anything's hands.  Things were pretty hectic during the week and I ran my first 1/2 marathon on the 2nd!  Yup!  13.1 miles!  It was a beautiful day in The Black Hills, but a little warm for a long run.  I ended up running it in 1:57:14!  I came in 8th in my division out of 68 and 120th overall out of 537 finishers.  I was pretty happy with that time, especially considering it was my first 1/2.  The last 2 miles felt absolutely awful, but I finished...and I only walked for about 30 seconds during the last 1/2 mile (and while I was drinking at the aid stations).  It felt so great to cross that finish line!  Quinn was waiting at the finish line and she gave me a big hug and cried...making me cry too.  :)

Anyway, this week I am participating in the weekly photo challenge over at A Step in the Journey.  The theme is "orange".  Perfect for this month!  So, on with the show...

Pumpkins at the grocery store.

Halloween sprinkles!
And last, but not least...

My favorite orange cheeks!!  :)
What are you waiting for?  Head on over to a Step in the Journey and check out all the orange pictures!!

Wednesday Wishes!

It is finally the month of my favorite Holiday!!!  Halloween!  I'm so excited!  The inside of my house is already decked out in Halloween awesomeness, but I still need to decorate the yard/porch.  Last night FWB came up to visit and after he was in the house for a bit he looked at me and said, "Ummm, you do realize it is ONLY October 4th, right?"  Little does he know I had most of the decorations out on September 30th.  :)  I want to take the whole 31 days to appreciate this awesome Holiday!  :)

This month, Wednesday Wishes will be all about Halloween.  I'll share costumes, decorations, goodies, etc. that I loved so much they were deemed "pinable" on my Pinterest.  Here we go...

How cute is this costume?!  Okay, it's probably the adorable kid and the expression on his face that makes it so cute, but I LOVE it!  It puts a smile on my face.  I always liked Edward Scissorhands.  I don't know why, but I thought it was a good movie.  I tried to talk Pacen into dressing up like this for Halloween this year, but he said no.  I still have time to persuade him to change his mind though, so I'm keeping my hopes up.  :)

I love this idea...putting a lace stocking over a pumpkin!  It is so unique and wonderful!  It brings a kind of romance to Halloween.

I wonder if Pacen would notice if some of his toy snakes disappeared...and then reappeared...painted black...on a grapevine wreath on the front door?  Hmmmmmmm.   :)

Jack-o-Lantern in a jar!  What a cool idea!  First I need to work on my cookie decorating skills, which are very lacking.  :)  This would be a neat gift/treat for my nieces, nephew, and Pacen.

I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to be this year.  I have found some very cool ideas, but none of them seem to be falling into place.  I love this makeup and I love the idea.  I found a black pinstripe suit at the Salvation Army for $3, but I couldn't find a white one so I left it there.  Maybe I will find time to go back (1 1/2 hour drive) to see if I can find something that will work.

Wednesday Wishes!

This is the last Wednesday Wishes of September and starting next week I'm going to be posting Halloween wishes/likes!  I can't wait!  Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday!  Until then, here are my faves from this past week:

Source: melskitchencafe.com via Brooke on Pinterest

Crispy Southwest Chicken Wraps!  I saw these and I thought they looked super delicious!  Well, the other night I was trying to think of something quick to make for dinner and this is what I chose.  I put two frozen chicken breasts in a skillet with some water and cranked the heat to 6ish.  They were done in no time.  I also used instant rice to speed things up.  The wraps/burritos turned out great!  Pacen even liked them (except for the beans).  I will definitely be making these again...maybe mixing it up a bit...and possibly freezing some for future dinners.  (Maybe next time I make them I'll post pictures.)

I LOVE this idea!  I am in love with the ocean as I've mentioned before here, and my house is filled with nautical decor.  I would love to do this!  I'm thinking in the upstairs bathroom when I get it remodeled.  Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!  (That was my excited squeal.)  I can't wait!

I am in love with this house, this yard, the view, and the location!!!  It is all so gorgeous!!  I would move there in a heartbeat!

Speaking of bathrooms, this is how I want my upstairs bathroom to look!  Almost exactly!  I also have a claw-foot tub that I want to put in that bathroom!  Now I am super motivated and excited!  Too bad I don't have the funds at the moment...or the time for that matter.  :(  Boooooooo!

When I create the mudroom on my back stairs I want some kind of cabinet space to organize everything.  I had originally thought cubbies with baskets or cabinets, but now, after seeing this, I want crates (maybe with baskets)!  Wonderful, bright, cheerful crates!  I think I could totally build them myself too!

Source: 29.media.tumblr.com via Brooke on Pinterest

I thought I'd end on something that I thought was funny.  I absolutely love reading!  Always have and I imagine I always will.  I love reading because of what this sign says.  I like to get away from "reality" and fall into a good book and a different "place".  Mystery and horror are my favorite genres.  I lean more towards mystery though because if I read horror books (or watch horror movies) when I am alone (even when Pacen is in the house) I tend to freak myself out.  I start hearing "noises" and I swear someone is sneaking through my house with the intent to kill me.  Silly, I know.  I only feel safe watching or reading horror movies/books if I have company.  It's weird, but I'm weird, and I willingly admit that.  :)

Now on to this week's quote...

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Mess

The weekly photo challenge last week over at A Step in the Journey was "a mess".  I really haven't been looking forward to this challenge.  I have so many messes right now and it's just plain embarrassing.  I  rearranged my living room a while back and I haven't yet put everything away 'cause I want to change the whole look...pictures and all.  I didn't want to show you that mess cause it's embarrassing that I actually live in it day in and day out.  My kitchen is also slightly messy.  The counter and butcher block tend to be "catch-alls".  I was too embarrassed to show that mess also.  My basement is, you guessed it, a mess.  Not the guest room or bathroom, but the main room, which is pretty small.  It's a mess 'cause the laundry was piled up in front of the washer and dryer and I was working on a project down there on the deep freeze due to the fact that both my kitchen and dining room tables are rather cluttered at the moment.  *Blush*  Once again I was too embarrassed to show that mess.

I finally decided to take a picture of the mess I have put off cleaning up for around five years.  It's a mess that gets a little worse each year.  It's...(dramatic pause)...the garage. *gasp!*  When I moved into this house five years ago I put some things in the garage and told myself I'd get to them soon.  Well, that didn't happen and every year more things got piled in there.  To top it off we have accumulated numerous bikes, holiday decor, etc.  Here it is...the awful garage disaster:

Oh my!  So many things just thrown in.  There actually is a work table/counter under all that crap to the left.  Yes, there is a hole in the back wall.  My neighbor backed into it one time.  Haven't been able to get it fixed yet.

Well, I decided this past weekend it was time to clean this mess.  I drug a lot of stuff out of the garage and piled it in the driveway.  I threw a bunch of crap away (2 pickup loads), swept like crazy, and organized.  Here is what my driveway looked like during the clean up:

This isn't nearly as bad as it ended up looking.
Finally, after 6-7 hours, almost being gassed out by Pacen who was spraying spiders and bees with bug spray, 6-10 squished spiders (of all kinds), some mild screaming and jumping around (spiders), lots of sneezing, a bit of raising my voice at Pacen and his buddy who were constantly in my way, and two trips to the fire pit where I work, I was finished!  Finished and SUPER pleased with myself.  I still have a box of things that I need to get rid of, but I want to see if the local theater company wants it for props and costumes.  I also want to figure out something to do with all the bikes.  They still make the garage crowded.  But I'm happy I have my work counter and I can easily fit my car in there this winter.  Yay!!!  Here is my clean garge:

I feel so relieved to have that mess cleaned up.  Now to tackle the messes in my house.  I did manage to get part of the living room and kitchen cleaned up.

Wednesday Wishes

It's that time of week again! My Pinterest likes and wishes! Man, the past week sure did fly by.

I am in love with these lockers!  I have been wanting to turn my back steps into a sort of mudroom for years and there is a spot at the top of the stairs that I always thought would be perfect for a locker type cubby thing.  A single one of these would be absolutely amazing right in that spot.  Do you think it would help Pacen stay organized?

I adore this light fixture.  I'm a sucker for old things.  Things that contain a lot of history.  Houses, furniture, cars, clothes, books, and just about anything antique.  Imagine the old homes these knob plates came from...the knobs that used to be attached to them...the many hands that turned those knobs.  My house was built in 1919 and some of the doors still have knob plates like these.  I would love to recreate this fixture and put it in my kitchen.  I believe I'll start collecting antique knob plates so I can try!

This quilt is so cute and would make the perfect wedding gift.  I know a couple that is getting married next Summer, and this just may be the gift I give them.  (If I have time and patience to get it done.)

Santorini, Greece!!  I LOVE to travel.  My biggest dream is to travel the world.  I want to see all and do all!  Someday I will visit Santorini and relish in it's beauty.

How awesome is this bed/homework area/small library?!!  Supposedly it is in a 10x10 room.  I have a small bedroom and I have wanted a unique space of my own since I was a child.  I am half tempted to build this in a corner in my room.  :)  It would make a nice office/crafting space and create more room for my other bedroom furniture.  Hmmmmmmm.

There were so many other things I would've loved to post, but I guess they'll have to wait for another time.  I leave you now with this week's quote:
